Regional Adult Education has partnered with Mountain Empire Community College to have a mobile application for Android developed for Adult Education. The application will be the capstone project for Associate Professor Nasser A. Maksoud’s Mobile Application Development class. This is the first mobile application developed specifically for Adult Education Students in the state of Virginia, and quite possibly in the nation. The application is designed to encourage adult education students to use technology as the 2014 version of the GED test will be computer based and require technology skills as well as basic skills and knowledge. We are working to prepare our region’s adults for this change by exposing them to and helping them to become more comfortable with digital resources. Linking to Race2GED, the application will give up to date information on testing and class schedules, contact information for classes and testing in the region and our YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. The application also links to on-line practice GED tests and review materials that will be useful for preparation for the GED Exam. GED class sites and testing centers throughout the state of Virginia can also be accessed through this application.

On April 19th at 10:00 am, the Mobile Application Development class will launch the “Race2GED” application here at our Regional Adult Education of Lee, Scott, Wise and Norton Public Schools offices at 1490 Bristol Highway, Gate City VA 24251. This press event will be attended by various members of the press, dignitaries from Mountain Empire Community College, the Adult Education Advisory Board, Adult Education staff and students and many others.

We are so excited about this wonderful cutting edge project, a technological advance that is being produced right here in our region.
