Graduate Jennifer Mitchell’s Advice: Don’t wait!
“Do it. Don’t sit at home. Don’t wait 19 years like I did. There is NOTHING to be scared of.”
That’s Jennifer Mitchell’s advice to anyone in the region who finds themselves lacking their diploma. Jennifer is a recent GED graduate from Big Stone Gap, and she will be the first to tell you – it wasn’t easy. But, she says, “it was SO worth it.”
Graduate Whitley Williams – “There is no time limit”
“The road wasn’t easy, and there were times I wanted to give up. The good thing is you can take the process as fast or slow as you would like until you complete your GED. There is no time limit. No matter how long it takes you or what may come your way, you CAN push through and keep going. I promise the struggles will be worth it!”

Instructor Feature: Judy Samples
Meet Instructor Judy Samples! She has been helping students earn their GEDs for almost 30 years. Judy teaches in two of our classroom sites, one at the Center for Workforce Innovation of Appalachia and one on the campus of Mountain Empire Community College, which she says provides students with unique opportunities to explore their future educational and career goals.

Today, we are featuring another of our wonderful educators! Meet Glenna McReynolds, a GED instructor for 19 years. Glenna teaches morning classes at the Oxbow Center in St. Paul and team teaches evening classes at the Vandiver building in Coeburn. She is currently teaching in one of our online classroom sites too!

Meet Jane Bowlin, our lead educator at the Pioneer Center in Duffield, and a team teacher for evening classes at our Gate City site.
Instructor Feature: Jan Stallard
Meet Jan Stallard, another of our dedicated instructors. Jan has been teaching with RACE1 for around 16 years! Her classroom is located at the regional office in Gate City, but she is currently serving students through digital instruction in one of our Google Classroom sites.

Meet Hannah Mallory, an instructor at the Vandiver building in Coeburn, VA. Currently, she is helping facilitate one of our three digital classroom sites.
