“What skills do offenders need to return to society and not reoffend”? That’s the question that Lt. Rebecca Baird of the Duffield Regional Jail (DRJ), Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Andy Johnson, and other local partners are finding answers to. The end goal of the partners is to ensure community safety by having former offenders enter employment and exit the justice system.

Two former Blackjewel miners have a new career path, thanks to a partnership between Mountain Empire Community College and Regional Adult and Career Education. Greg Seals and Rodney Tritt recently completed the CDL Road to Success in Virginia Program (RSVP), and were among 7 successful course graduates.

Wise Works, a Wise County alternative sentencing program, and RACE 1, the Regional Adult and Career Education Program, have announced a partnership that will give program participants the opportunity to pursue education and work readiness classes as part of their community service requirements.
